About the work

La pose d’une caméra de surveillance indique une intention de surveiller quelqu’un·e ou quelque chose. Sa position, dans ce que l’on peut imaginer être une serre/laboratoire traversé par un courant d’air constant et éclairé de lumière au design futuriste m’a fait penser à une salle d’opération. Comme si l’on travaillait sur ces plantes à priori sans vie pour les réanimer. Elles n’ont pourtant rien de particulier qui saute aux yeux malgré le zoom accru de la caméra. Pourquoi s’ont-elles sous surveillance ? J’ai passé tout compte fait quelques heures à les observer et rien d’autre que leurs tiges et des lambeaux de plastiques ne bougent. Pas d’humains. Pas de travail, pas d’expériences… Comme si l’opération avait été abandonnée sous des circonstances que nous ne pouvons qu’imaginer.

À travers la pièce, qui commence par poser le décor sonore de l’espace en mélangeant différentes qualité de vents, de crissements de feuilles et de grésillements de néons puis se développe en invitant des sons extérieurs, inspirés des scènes musicale minimal/glitch et du mouvement Botanica, en utilisant des techniques de composition contraire entre scientifique et chaotique je voulais explorer ces question d’expérimentations et d’abandon dans le rapport conflictuel entre l’humain et la nature.

The instalation of a surveillance camera indicate an intent to watch over someone or something. It’s position, in what we can imagine being a hothouse/laboratory constantly animated by a draft, illuminated by a futuristic light made me think of an operating room. Like if one was working on reanimating the seemingly lifeless plants. They do not appear to have anything particular despite the very detailed zoom of the camera. Why are they watched ? All things considered, I spent a few hours watching over them and nothing else than their shafts and rags of plastic are moving. No humans. No activities. No experiment… It’s like it was abandoned under circumstances that we can only imagine.

Throughout the piece, which begins by setting the soundscape of the space by blending different sounds of wind, rustling leaves, and the crackling of neon lights, and then evolves by incorporating external sounds inspired by the minimal/glitch music scenes and the Botanica movement, and employing compositional techniques that contrast the scientific with the chaotic, I sought to explore the themes of experimentation and surrendering within the conflictual relationship between humans and nature.

Ses recherches artistiques du moment se penchent sur l’espace d’entre deux qui se crée entre le son et l’image qu’il·elle explore comme terrain pour raconter des histoires auto-fictionnelles et tirer des tangentes à rallonge sur notre réalité.

crème is a student of visual and sound arts at the EDHEA in Sierre (Switzerland). Their current artistic research focuses on the in-between space created between sound and image, which they explore as a medium for telling autofictional stories and drawing extended tangents from our reality.
