About the work

« A death in July » est une composition musicale réalisée avec différents matériaux sonores comme un synthétiseur, une console de mixage, ou encore des instruments tels qu’un kalimba, un ukulélé et aussi des voix. Elle s’inspire des images découvertes sur le site Accoustics Camera Lab, notamment cette caméra capturant une atmosphère contemplative et évasive, parfois même sinistre. Traversé un univers sonore aussi bien doux et apaisant, qu’oppressant et terne. Ce projet a été réalisé dans le cadre d’un workshop organisé par Nicolas Germain et Thierry Weyd aux côtés de l’intervenante Alice Dourlen et avec l’aide précieuse de Cécile Ortola- Vanhove. Avec la collaboration de Constance Denecheau et de Noémie Baril.

“A Death in July” is a musical composition created using various sound materials such as a synthesizer, a mixing console, and instruments like a kalimba, a ukulele, as well as vocal elements. It is inspired by images discovered on the Acoustics Camera Lab website, particularly the camera that captures a contemplative, elusive, and at times even sinister atmosphere. The composition traverses a sonic universe that is both soft and soothing, yet oppressive and bleak. This project was developed as part of a workshop organized by Nicolas Germain and Thierry Weyd, with the participation of Alice Dourlen and the invaluable support of Cécile Ortola-Vanhove. In collaboration with Constance Denecheau and Noémie Baril.

About the artist

JULY est un collectif de deux étudiantes en Design graphique à l’ESAM Caen- Cherbourg. Il se compose de Lilly Cornu, qui travaille principalement sur la notion de mouvement et de continuité à travers le cinéma d’animation et l’illustration, et de Justine Léonard, qui elle aborde l’illustration de manière contemplative, qu’elle met en relation avec la question de la végétalisation dans l’architecture. Ensemble, elles décident de collaborer sur ce projet qui mêle son, image, mouvement et angoisses à travers cette caméra de surveillance.

JULY is a collective formed by two Graphic Design students from ESAM Caen-Cherbourg. It consists of Lilly Cornu, who primarily explores the notions of movement and continuity through animation and illustration, and Justine Léonard, who approaches illustration in a contemplative way, linking it to questions of greenery in architecture. Together, they decided to collaborate on this project, which intertwines sound, image, movement, and anxieties through the lens of this surveillance camera.
